A Moment of Reflection

Wow, what a day we’ve had. It started with a spectacular flight from Juneau to Haines in a Piper Cherokee Six, and finished with an intimate, after gig music session with a couple of local musicians; a fiddle player, a box player and a singer. I can think of no better way to end the tour.

That’s right, our Alaskan adventure is over. I can hardly believe it. It all seems to have happened so quickly. Tonight’s gig was quite emotional for me, as halfway through the second set it finally sank in that this was it. We are done. The gigs have been played. The CDs have been sold. It has come time to bid Alaska farewell.

Of course my holiday isn’t quite over yet. We get to meet some friends in Seattle tomorrow night and I have a farewell reunion with Meredith, Jay and Courtney in Milwaukee on Monday. But come Tuesday, I’m boarding a plane to Dublin.

Well, that’s the plan. I heard today that there’s a possibility of industrial action by Aer Lingus, which may result in my flight being cancelled. So my stay in Milwaukee may be extended by a day or so.

By the way, we’ve got some pictures from last night’s gig in Juneau. They were taken by Patrick - a wonderful photographer - who also set up the gig. Hopefully we’ll get those posted later today.

Well, that’s almost it. It’s been awesome, better than I could ever have imagined or hoped it might be. I’m sure there’ll be a few more posts before we finish up, so I won’t say goodbye just yet. For the moment, I’ll just bid you all goodnight.
